I am a 16 year old, studying in Mayo College, Ajmer in Rajasthan . Right now, my hols are going on and my school will reopen next month. You must be wondering why i am telling you all this; and here's my problem. My reservation in a train to Ajmer has been pending for over a month now. Why?? Well, it is the only train going through Rajasthan right now. Now why is that?? The Gujjar protests, off course, which are making headlines these days.
I agree that the backward classes have got the right to develop. But we cannot limit the possibility of another candidate who might be more deserving. In the quest for providing equal opportunities to all, we are actually making things even more complicated. Reservation is not an "ETHICAL" solution for the upliftment of the backward classes. Though it might have been successful in its purpose, but the after-effects on the "NON-RESERVED" are disastrous. Reservation has reduced the opportunities for the general people who might be more deserving. I may be wrong when i say this , but i strongly feel that reservation is actually against a very basic principle of our Constitution - "Equality - Equal Social and Economic Opportunities For All" .
A possible solution to this problem can be giving Economic favours for the OBC's, SCs and STs rather than reservation. I am sure our Govt. can do this much. If not, than maybe increase fees etc. for the general. I firmly believe that the Generals will be happier with this and only the deserving will make their way through, no matter what religion, caste or whatever they belong to.
Does anyone out there agree ???
